Open and Affirming

We, the members of Peace Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, believing in Christ’s gospel of unconditional love, welcome into full participation, membership and leadership of this congregation persons of every race, language, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, economic or marital status, and faith background. We affirm and celebrate all loving and committed relationships and affirm that all families defined by love are blessed.

The Story of Peace

Peace Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, began as a ministry of the Southeast Conference in the fall of 2007 and became the first official United Church of Christ in the upstate of South Carolina on April 16, 2011. This church was the dream of a small group of young adults in the Clemson area who longed to be part of a faith community that was both progressive in its theology and truly open and affirming of all people.

We honor the unique histories, traditions, and faith stories of everyone in our community, but we unite around our shared vision which is to be a community of hope that:

  • proclaims God’s extravagant welcome

  • embodies the radical love of Jesus

  • honors the interconnectedness of our lives with creation

  • empowers all people to grow toward wholeness
